The Mothers of the Protesters Form Human Chain Around Gezi Park, Taksim

Two days ago, the governor of Istanbul, Huseyin Avni Mutlu had stated that there would be no police attacks on Taksim and had warned parents to "call their children back home" as "their lives were under threat." The morning after this statement, police forces assaulted Taksim Square and Gezi Park with gas bombs and water cannons throughout the day.

Tonight, the mothers of the protesters have come to Taksim Square and have formed a human chain around Gezi Park to protect their children against police violence.

The mothers are chanting "Side by Side Against Fascism," "The Government Must Resign," "Don't Touch Our Children," and also in memory of Abdullah Comert -shot in the head by the police in Hatay- "Abdullah Comert is our Child."
